In 2020 data recently released on bermudagrass performance on putting greens by the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP), Tahoma 31 performed very well as compared to commercial standard varieties, TifEagle, Mini Verde, and Tifdwarf. The overall turf quality rating of Tahoma 31 was 5.8 while those of TifEagle, Mini Verde and Tifdwarf were 5.7, 5.4, and 5.2. Though these numbers are not statistically significant, they do show Tahoma 31’s viability at greens height.. Of course, Tahoma 31 exhibited the lowest winterkill rate as expected. Ball roll of Tahoma 31 in New Mexico reached 112″ while the best of Standard, Mini Verde went to 124″ and Tifdwarf did 114″, which indicates that while Tahoma 31 will not have the greens speed of an ultradwarf bermudagrass, Tahoma 31 may be suitable for use tee-to-green in certain situations where championship ball roll is not targeted.
